Developmental concerns

Developmental problems in young children are common. Some studies suggest that up to 15% of children under 5 have a developmental delay in at least one area of development; including speech and language, motor, social-emotional and cognitive.1

Parents are often first to notice developmental delays in their children. It is important to raise these concerns with your doctor, as early detection of developmental problems provides an opportunity for early intervention to shift a child’s developmental trajectory and optimise their potential.

At Pakenham Family Health our doctors are interested in your child’s development and at the moment we are asking parents of children between 1 and 5 years old to fill out a quick PEDS questionnaire as they wait for their appointment. The questionnaire is then scored and those identified by doctors who may need further assessment are booked for a follow up appointment.

However, if at any time you may have concerns regarding your child’s development, do not hesitate to raise it with their doctor.
